Characteristic type I interferon (IFN-I)-inducible genes like Interferon regulatory factor 7 (IRF7), Interferon gamma-induced protein 10 (IP-10), Interferon-stimulated gene 15 (ISG-15) and MX Dynamin-Like GTPase 1 (Mx1) have been shown to be upregulated in murine and human SLE [11–13] and appear to be related to production of anti-nuclear abs that induce immunopathological damage of various organs [10, 14]. The gene discussed is ISG15; the disease is systemic lupus erythematosus.
