Patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus have elevated levels of both hs‐cTnT and NT‐proBNP, which appear to be predictive of adverse cardiovascular events including heart failure.27, 28, 29 However, previous studies that have demonstrated their prognostic utility have not included comprehensive cardiac imaging and the exact mechanism of the processes leading to myocardial injury and biomarker release was not fully understood. This evidence concerns the gene NPPB and heart failure.
