The cyclin dependent kinase inhibitor 2A (CDKN2A) locus encodes at least three related genes that serve as tumour suppressors, of which p14ARF and p16INK4a, which have distinct first exons but share exons two and three translated in different reading frames, are known cell cycle regulators with multiple links to human cancer [36].
