Inherited hemoglobinopathies are unlikely to contribute to anemia, as a previous study in the Taabo HDSS reported 83% of subjects to have normal Hb genotype, and only 7%, 8%, and 1% carried the C allele, S allele, or had sickle cell anemia, respectively [2].
