Interestingly, when other brain regions were analyzed (e.g. substantia nigra), PD microglia showed a significant 2-fold increase in ANK1 expression (S1 Table), providing further evidence for the notion that ANK1 may be involved in, or associated with, the process of neurodegeneration, more specifically, neuroinflammation. The gene discussed is ANK1; the disease is Parkinson disease.
