Patients who developed TB had lower baseline median CD4 cell counts (117 versus 161 cells/μl), higher baseline median HIV viral loads (111,000 versus 50,000 copies/mL), and more advanced disease (WHO clinical stage III/IV 22.2% versus 15.6%) compared to other patients, whereas distributions of age and sex were similar (Table 1). This evidence concerns the gene CD4 and tuberculosis.
