Furthermore, associations have repeatedly been found between schizophrenia and genetic markers across the extended Major Histocompatibility Complex (MHC) locus on chromosome 6 (25–34 Mb), implicating the MHC locus as strongest of the >100 loci of genome-wide significance (see e.g., Shi et al., 2009; Stefansson et al., 2009; Schizophrenia Psychiatric Genome-Wide Association Study Consortium, 2011; Schizophrenia Working Group of the Psychiatric Genomics Consortium, 2014). This evidence concerns the gene HLA-C and schizophrenia.
