The incidence of clinically relevant ALKBH3 methylation (thresholding at the 20% cytosine methylation level) is approximately 5% in our cohort (13 of 265; 4.9%) and, on the basis of Cox’s proportional hazards regression analysis, we found that these patients were at approximately 2.3-fold increased risk of death resulting from breast cancer in a multivariate model including adjustment for age and year at diagnosis (HR = 2.3; P = 0.012). Here, ALKBH3 is linked to breast carcinoma.
