GSTM1 and anemia: Of the first episodes, two women developed prostration and required hospitalization, and one had severe thrombocytopaenia; and of the second episodes (both in 15 year-old females) the P. falciparum infection presented hepatic dysfunction with hyperbilirubinaemia and clinical jaundice, while the P. vivax case showed severe anaemia (Hb 4.4 g/dL) with general pallor.
