When we quantified all progenitor combinations, including single Dl-GFP+ cells, Dl-GFP+—Dl-GFP+ pairs, Dl-GFP+—Notch+ pairs, Notch+—Notch+ pairs and single Notch+ cells, in both unchallenged and bacteria-infected (Ecc15, 12 hours post infection) intestines, we uncovered a significant increase of the Dl-GFP+—Dl-GFP+ pairs in infected guts (Fig 1I and 1J).
