SIRT6, which is highly expressed in the heart, plays a protective role in several cardiovascular-related diseases, including cardiac hypertrophy, heart failure, atherosclerosis, myocardial hypoxic damage, and metabolism (Cai et al., 2012; Maksin-Matveev et al., 2015; Liu et al., 2016). Here, SIRT6 is linked to atherosclerosis.
