PVALB and schizophrenia: Supplementation with NAC has previously also been shown to prevent changes in the expression of parvalbumin, a marker of fast-spiking GABAergic neurons, which occur in several animal models of schizophrenia (Cabungcal et al., 2013, 2014), and which are a hallmark of morphological changes seen in postmortem brains of schizophrenic patients (Lewis et al., 2012).
