The tauopathies, which characterized by hyperphosphorylation and aggregation of tau, are found in various neurodegenerative disorders such as frontotemporal dementia with parkinsonism linked to chromosome 17 (FTDP-17), Pick’s disease, and Alzheimer’s disease (AD)1–3. The gene discussed is MAPT; the disease is early-onset autosomal dominant Alzheimer disease.
