Kynurenic acid, besides acting as an NMDAR inhibitor, is also a potent non-competitive α7nAChR-antagonist (155) and is associated with hypoglutamatergic and hypocholinergic neurotransmission, facilitating cognitive deficits and sensory gating disturbances in schizophrenia (155).
