The DQoL is a long questionnaire and some questions seem conceptually difficult, for example: “How often do you find yourself explaining what it means to have diabetes?” or “...that your body looks different because you have diabetes?.” Others seem inappropriate: “...How often do you feel that you have to go the bathroom more than others?.” And some of the items use obsolete terms or sound outdated: for example, “insulin reaction,” or “typewriter” (Gibbons and Fitzpatrick, 2009). This evidence concerns the gene INS and diabetes mellitus.
