After the adjustment of ferritin concentrations with the use of the IRC-CRP+AGP approach, the estimated prevalence of depleted iron stores was significantly different (P < 0.0001) in subjects with and without malaria in 4 of 5 surveys that included malaria in PSC and in 1 of 3 surveys that included malaria in WRA (Figure 6, Supplemental Table 12). The gene discussed is ATP5MK; the disease is malaria.
