The 8;21 chromosomal translocation, which is prevalent in acute myeloid leukemia, combines the first 5 exons of the RUNX1 gene, located on chromosome 21, with nearly all of the ETO gene, located on chromosome 8, and generates a chimeric transcript encoding the oncogenic AML1-ETO (also called RUNX1-RUNX1T1) protein [9], [10]. Here, RUNX1 is linked to acute myeloid leukemia.
