To date, there are no data linking loss of p53 function and melatonin synthesis or signaling in cancer, however some findings emphasize that activation of the p53 tumor-suppressor pathway, mediated by MT1 and MT2, may be a critical mediator in the anticancer activity of melatonin in CRC and breast cancer in vitro [25,26].
