This link between EMT and immunosuppression seems to be conserved in humans as the authors could identify, using two independent gene expression data sets, that EMT gene signature in lung adenocarcinoma is related to the upregulated expression of multiple immune checkpoints (PD‐1/PD‐L1, CTLA‐A, TIM‐3, and others), to high Foxp3‐positive Treg cell density, to immunosuppressive cytokine production (TGF‐β, IL‐10, and IL‐6), and finally, to a strong inflammatory reaction (indeed, CD4+ Treg cells produce high amounts of proinflammatory cytokines such as IL‐10, TNF‐α, or IL‐6) (Chen et al., 2014). This evidence concerns the gene IL10 and lung adenocarcinoma.
