SNAI1 and cancer: Similarly, in basal‐like breast carcinoma cells, Snail1‐induced epigenetic silencing of FBP1 (fructose‐1, 6‐bisphosphatase) on the one hand promotes glycolysis and the production of NAPDH (via the pentose phosphate pathway), and on the other hand decreases respiration, leading to the decreased production of ROS, which finally endows tumor cells with cancer stem cell‐ and EMT‐like features (Dong et al., 2013).
