Although IL‐8 can be secreted by a variety of stromal cells, EMT pathways induce IL‐8 expression and secretion in tumor cells as shown in human breast cancer cell lines (Brysse et al., 2012; Li et al., 2012a; Lim et al., 2013; Suarez‐Carmona et al., 2015), in immortalized oral keratinocytes (Lyons et al., 2008), in lung cancer cell lines (Fernando et al., 2011), and in colorectal cancer cell lines (Bates et al., 2004) or in colorectal cancer cells freshly isolated from human tumors (Hwang et al., 2011).
