Of note, phosphorylation predominantly occurred in CTF TDP-43 (Fig 3A and 3C), as was seen in previous reports [34] and in cases of FTLD-U and ALS patients [14], in spite of equimolar expression levels of WT and CTF TDP-43 proteins as examined by non-phosphorylated TDP-43 antibody (Fig 3B and 3D), suggesting the existence of yet unknown mechanisms involving selective phosphorylation of CTF TDP-43. The gene discussed is TARDBP; the disease is amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
