CD8A and Chagas disease: On the basis that the quality of the T cells response is critical for the control of chronic infections such as Chagas disease, we also evaluated the polyfunctional profiles of the CD4+ and CD8+ T cells following stimulation with STcA. A decrease in the frequency of polyfunctional CD4+ (p<0.0001) and CD8+ T cells (Fig 4A1 and 4B1, respectively) and an increase in the frequency of monofunctional CD8+ T cells were observed in the group of transmitting mothers.
