Previous neuroimaging studies observed altered brain responses to food stimuli in individuals with rare monogenic forms of hyperphagia and obesity (Farooqi et al. 2007; van der Klaauw et al. 2014), and in carriers of risk alleles of genes associated with common obesity, such as the FTO-gene (Heni et al. 2014; Karra et al. 2013). The gene discussed is FTO; the disease is obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
