In HIV-negative patients with alcoholic (ASH) and non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) single-nucleotide polymorphisms in the genes PNPLA3 (rs738409), CSPG3/NCAN (rs2228603), GCKR (rs780094), PPP1R3B (rs4240624), LYPLAL1 (rs12137855), TM6SF2 (rs8542926) and MBOAT7 (rs626283) have been identified as risk factors for fatty liver disease, liver fibrosis and liver cancer [6–11]. The gene discussed is NCAN; the disease is metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis.
