Given that intraneuronal deposits of hyper-phosphorylated tau and extracellular deposits of Aβ fibrils are neuropathological hallmarks of AD (Arnold et al., 1991; Braak and Braak, 1991; Braak and Del Tredici, 2012), we first measured total tau, p-T181-tau, p-S396-tau, and Aβ42.
