Although p53 exerts its tumor suppressor effects by regulating a wide variety of cellular processes, it has context-dependent functions (Aylon and Oren, 2016; Vousden, 2000; Zilfou and Lowe, 2009) that are determined by various factors including cell-type, genetic background of the cell, extracellular environment, and the nature and duration of stress. This evidence concerns the gene TP53 and neoplasm.
