In support of this notion, recent studies have shown that cancer cells rewire their Ca2+ circuitry, including increased expression of components of store-operated channels (SOC) such as Ca2+ Release-activated Ca2+ Modulator 1 (Orai1), stromal interaction molecule 1 (STIM1), and the transient receptor potential channel 1 (TRPC1)3, 4. This evidence concerns the gene STIM1 and cancer.
