Epithelial cell adhesion molecule (EpCAM) [13, 14], initially discovered as a predominant antigen in human colon cancer [15], is a type I transmembrane glycoprotein that is expressed on subsets of normal epithelia [14] and numerous stem cells [16] and is also overexpressed in a heterogeneous manner in some epithelial cancers [17], including ovarian cancer [18]. Here, EPCAM is linked to ovarian carcinoma.
