ABCB5 and melanoma: The use of several cell-surface markers, such as CD44, CD24, CD133, CD166, EpCAM (epithelial cell adhesion molecule), and ABCB5 (ATP-binding cassette subfamily B member 5), has successfully allowed the isolation of CSCs from solid tumors, including human colon, breast, brain, pancreatic, liver, ovarian, and melanoma.
