The following parameters were independently associated with higher mortality risk [HR (95% CI)]: (i) CD4 T lymphocyte count ≤50 cells/mm3 [3.10 (1.72–5.58); p < 0.001], (ii) requirement of mechanical ventilation [2.81; (1.17–6.76; p = 0.02)] and disseminated clinical presentation of TB [3.70; (1.29–10.59; p = 0.01)]. The gene discussed is CD4; the disease is tuberculosis.
