Innate immune responses leading to Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) can be initiated by adipose tissue inflammation, as has been shown through LPS-treatment of adipocytes which showed significant increase in TLR2, TRAF-6, and NF-κB levels as well as increased secretion of potentially diabetogenic proinflammatory cytokines. Here, NFKB1 is linked to type 2 diabetes mellitus.
