This finding, together with the findings of Bode et al. (1) and Broer et al. (9), indicates that as in 143B cells, MCF-7 cells, and the hepatoma cell lines HepG2 and Hep3B, SLC1A5 may act as an “amino acid harmonizer” in lymphocytes, while other transporters such as SNAT1 (SLC38A1) and SNAT2 (SLC38A2) mediate net import of glutamine. The gene discussed is SLC1A5; the disease is hepatocellular carcinoma.
