(1) that competitive inhibition of SLC1A5-mediated glutamine uptake in human hepatoma cell lines blocked their proliferation only in cells lacking expression of SNAT1 and SNAT2, and exhibiting low mRNA levels of glutamine synthetase (1). The gene discussed is SLC38A1; the disease is hepatocellular carcinoma.
