The observed associations of odd-chain saturated fatty acids (15:0+17:0) with leptin and PAI-1 concentrations agree with those of a cross-sectional analysis of baseline data of a prospective case-control study in Sweden (78 acute myocardial infarction cases and 156 controls) [19], indicating that the relationships between odd-chain saturated fatty acids and these adipokines are consistent irrespective of circulating levels of odd-chain saturated fatty acids (0.54% in the present study vs 0.67% in the Swedish study). The gene discussed is LEP; the disease is acute myocardial infarction.
