Studies have shown that MnSOD was significantly downregulated in the aortas of diabetic WT mice, whereas endothelium-specific Sirt1 transgenic mice successfully reversed the MnSOD decline, thereby indicating the pivotal role of the Sirt1/MnSOD pathway in the inhibition of hyperglycemia-induced endothelial dysfunction [72].
