Interestingly FGF2 has previous been identified as an I/R‐induced nephrogenic protein with the inhibition of FGFR2 by antisense oligonucleotides enhancing ischaemic AKI damage, thus suggesting that endogenous FGF2/FGFR2 signalling is involved in the renal I/RI repair process. Here, FGFR2 is linked to acute kidney injury.
