As we did not see direct effects of MK-2305 agonists in the perfused liver, and GPR40 is not expressed in the liver [2] (and unpublished observations), we hypothesize that the changes in fasting plasma glucose in diabetics induced by GPR40 partial agonists may result from changes in liver metabolism secondary to changes in insulin secretion. This evidence concerns the gene FFAR1 and diabetes mellitus.
