The nucleotide pool-sanitizing enzyme MTH1 was shown to be of pivotal importance for the progression and the survival of cancer cells as it degrades 8-oxo-dGTP as well as 2-OH-dATP to their respective monophosphatic states, which can then be discarded from the nucleotide pool, thus preventing their incorporation into the DNA [10, 11]. This evidence concerns the gene NUDT1 and cancer.
