Using a panel of heterogeneous neuroendocrine tumor (NET) cell lines, we tested TH588 alone or in combination with the mTOR inhibitor everolimus, 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) and γ-irradiation and found that found that TH588 induces cancer cell death by downregulating the PI3K-Akt-mTOR axis and apoptosis induction and these effects are augmented when TH588 is combined with everolimus or 5-fluorouracil. The gene discussed is AKT1; the disease is cancer.
