Only high kallistatin levels were associated with a significantly lower risk of septic shock, ARDS, and positive blood culture (OR 0.29 (95% CI, 0.12–0.73), p = 0.008 for septic shock; OR 0.17 (95% CI, 0.04–0.80), p = 0.025 for ARDS; OR 0.33 (95% CI, 0.11–0.99), p = 0.047 for positive blood culture) (S3 Table). This evidence concerns the gene SERPINA4 and acute respiratory distress syndrome.
