GTPBP1 and viral infectious disease: Previous studies demonstrated that gaps in the glycan shield of LASV GPC permittedneutralizing antibodies to interact simultaneously with the N-terminal extension of GP1 andeither the fusion loop or the T-loop of GP2, inhibiting the structural alterations requiredfor fusion.44 These discoveries showedthat maintaining glycoprotein structural integrity during viral infection is necessary andthat neutralizing mAbs targeting different surface glycoprotein epitopes can interfere withstructural state switching.
