These beneficial effects of scopolin on hepatic steatosis appear to be associated with increased deacetylation of the SREBP1c protein with subsequent downregulation of lipogenic genes (LXRα, ACC, LPL, and FAS), along with increased deacetylation of the PGC-1α protein with upregulation of genes involved in fatty acid oxidation (PPARα, and CPT1). The gene discussed is FAS; the disease is fatty liver disease.
