Parkinson's disease (PD) is a late-onset, progressive neurodegenerative disorder characterized by relatively selective nigrostriatal dopaminergic degeneration and the development of fibrillary cytoplasmic inclusions (Lewy bodies) containing aberrant oligomeric alpha-synuclein and ubiquitin (Bove and Perier, 2012, Fujita et al., 2014, Schapira, 2006). This evidence concerns the gene SNCA and Parkinson disease.
