As CREB was clearly activated on phospho kinase screening and Western blot analysis, we also looked at CREB transcriptional genes in CMCAAT treated MCF-7 cells and found an upregulation of LDHA (lactate dehydrogenase A; 2.1-fold) and downregulation of GEM (GTP binding protein overexpressed in skeletal muscle; 19.2-fold), ATF3 (activating transcription factor 3; 11.1-fold), DUSP1 (dual specificity phosphatase 1; 5.4-fold) and PER1 (period circadian clock 1; 2.5-fold), known to affect breast cancer proliferation and growth [23–29] (Figure 3B). The gene discussed is CREB1; the disease is breast cancer.
