The activation of TGF-β/SMAD signaling via TGFBR1/TGFBR2 complexes is tightly regulated at the receptor level and promotes hepatic fibrosis by enhancing the activation and survival of HSCs, and this is one of the major signal transduction pathways associated with hepatic fibrogenesis.30, 38 Because the roles of the target genes TGFBR1 and TGFBR2 in NAFLD disease pathways are so prominent, we preferred to study miR-130a-3p but not the other miRNAs that were even more upregulated or downregulated like miR-582-3p or miR-335-5p, as shown in the volcano plot. This evidence concerns the gene TGFBR2 and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease.
