Within active immunotherapy, to enhance the immunogenicity of GBM, two approaches are used nowadays: (a) peptide immunotherapy where the target is a cancer-specific antigen like EGFRvIII (epidermal growth factor receptor) and (b) dendritic cell immunotherapy where dendritic cells act as antigen-presenting cells and can be pulsed with autologous tumor lysate or peptides from cytomegalovirus that is present in GBM but not in normal brain [7]. The gene discussed is EGFR; the disease is glioblastoma.
