During intervertebral disc degeneration, inflammatory factors such as IL-1β and TNF-α stimulate the nucleus pulposus cells to activate IκB kinase, thereby degrading IκB protein after ubiquitination and phosphorylation and exposing the NF-κB dimers, particularly dimer p65–p50. Here, NFKB1 is linked to Intervertebral disk degeneration.
