GRIA1 and schizophrenia: Importantly, an analysis of GluA1 function in terms of regulating the rate of decay of short-term memories and attentional processes, provides a psychological mechanism for determining how aberrant salience can lead to the abnormal formation of associations between events, of particular relevance to delusion formation and perhaps other cognitive abnormalities in disorders like schizophrenia in which altered glutamatergic signaling is implicated.
