A negative regulation of mTOR signalling by Cav-1 has been demonstrated in several cellular model systems: a remarkable increase of mTOR acitvity in Cav-1-deficient cancer-associated fibroblasts [36], hypoactivation of mTOR signalling in Cav-1-overexpressing U87MG cells [37, 38] inhibited the activation of PI3K/AKT/mTOR signalling in HL-60 cells with Cav-1 over-expression [39].
