Tumor necrosis factor (TNF-α) is an inflammatory cytokine that has been noted in uveitis-induced experimental animal studies, together with other cytokines, with documented increased serum and aqueous humor levels in the eyes with active posterior uveitis, whereas the blockade of these inflammatory mediators has been postulated to provide better control in BD patients by many investigators [5, 6]. This evidence concerns the gene TNF and uveitis.
