Paradoxically, overexpression of AJAP1 in MCF-7 cells increases cell migration and loss of AJAP1 decreases the migration behavior (Gross et al., 2009), whereas in highly invasive glioblastoma tumors and glioblastoma cell lines, AJAP1 expression is lost by methylation of the AJAP1 promotor. The gene discussed is AJAP1; the disease is glioblastoma.
