NPPB and myocardial infarction: The increasing availability of high-sensitivity assays for troponin in routine biochemistry laboratories (where it is typically used for the diagnosis of myocardial infarction) alongside brain natriuretic peptide (especially N-terminal pro-b-type natriuretic peptide [NT-proBNP] which is usually measured when left ventricular failure is suspected), indicates that these assays could be easily incorporated into routine cardiovascular risk screening if they are demonstrated to predict risk effectively.
