Figure 5 shows that the expression of MCP1 and VEGF mRNA and protein levels were significantly increased in ApoE−/− mice compared to WT mice (p < 0.05). Conversely, folic acid gavage significantly decreased the expression of these mRNAs and proteins (p < 0.05 comparing HF+CON to HF+FA). Thus, folic acid inhibited the expression of MCP1 and VEGF mRNA and protein in ApoE−/− mice fed a high-fat diet. Here, APOE is linked to hydrops fetalis.
